What do you think is the greatest Western movie ever made & why do you think it’s the greatest?
Qυеѕtіοn bу dgindiansfan: Whаt ԁο уου thіnk іѕ thе greatest Western movie еνеr mаԁе & whу ԁο уου thіnk іt’s thе greatest?
Or maybe I ѕhουƖԁ аѕk whаt іѕ уουr favorite western movie. I’m 33 years οƖԁ аnԁ hаνе јυѕt ѕtаrtеԁ watching westerns. Until thе οthеr night, I hаԁ never watched a John Wayne movie (I know, I know, іt’s shameful, bυt trυе.) I watched “El Dorado”, аnԁ I really еnјοуеԁ іt. I’ve аƖѕο watched “Unforgiven”, “Thе Gοοԁ, Thе Bаԁ, аnԁ Thе UɡƖу″, “Fοr a Few Dollars More”, “Open Range”, аnԁ “Thе Undefeated”. I’m јυѕt trying tο ɡеt аn іԁеа οf whісh ones I really need tο see tο fully appreciate thе whole genre. I’ve read a few things online thаt ѕау “Thе Man Whο Shot Liberty Valance” іѕ one οf thе best. Anу (sensible) input аnԁ opinions аrе appreciated!!

Hustle and Flow
the music is so good and I usually don’t like rap
I really, really like Magnificent Seven.
You’ve gotta see it. Now I want to watch it right now.
AND if you like reading try a Louis Lamour.
Good Bad and Ugly
Mackennes Gold, It’s not only a great western it’s a really good adventure movie.
I think John Wayne’s the Searchers was rated as best all time western.
“Tombstone”, that’s all I need to say.
If it has John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Henry Fonda or Clint Eastwood it will be a great western.
Tombstone. The greatest western ever. Period. The acting is unparalleled, and the story is just accurate enough to keep you from lumping with other fictitious accounts.
i like wild wild west because it had will smith in it
“the wild bunch” has been voted as one of the best movies made with a western theme…it is in the top 50 of all movies…the theme is that the west is slowly closing and a few don’t fit in the modern world..the story takes place in 1905 on the Mexican border….it is a SAM Peckinpah’s move with Earnest borginne and William Holden.. made in 1964…very highly recommended…i have it on tape, CD and copies located at different locations in case of fire or thereof ….check out Sam Peckinpah….this my favorite movie
A list: “Monte Walsh” with Lee Marvin; ” Will Penny” Charston Heston; “The Searchers” John Wayne; “Red River” John Wayne;
And I agree, Liberty Valence is one of the best.
I’m a bit odd, but here are my favorite western movies.
1. The Quick and the Dead — Sam Raimi directs this gem with Gene Hackman, Sharon Stone, and Lance Henrickson. Movie trivia: Only Raimi movie without the Oldsmobile in it.
2. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid — A fun flick with Paul and Robert doing their thing.
3. Westworld — Not technically a western, but it does have Yul Brenner as a badass robot cowboy. Mostly western settings, and a joy to watch.
4. The Trinity series — I’d say more of a guilty pleasure than a good movie, these movies are THE Spaghetti westerns.
I’m a big fan of Sergio Leone’s westerns, and I think the greatest of them is “Once Upon a Time in the West.” Charles Bronson, Claudia Cardinale, Jason Robards, and Henry Fonda as about the baddest bad guy EVER.
The opening credits sequence, with the three would-be assassins waiting for Bronson’s train to come in, is phenomenal.
Oh my gosh. I just turned 50 today, and I’ve been a John Wayne fan since I was old enough to walk. He, in my opinion, is just the greatest western actor ever. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is good. But you need to add these to your list. McClintock, The Alamo, The Fighting Kentuckians, Chisum, Rio Bravo, Rio Grande, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, Fort Apache. These are just a few. And you have to watch High Noon if you just started watching westerns. It’s one of the greatest with Gary Cooper. And don’t forget Gunfight at the Ok Corral. Have fun and enjoy.
